Advanced WooCommerce Platform with Tiered Pricing and Custom Workflows

Developed as part of an agency-led project, this WooCommerce eCommerce platform needed to support different customer types, complex pricing structures and a range of custom requirements.

The Problem

The business had both retail and trade customers, each with different pricing, access and requirements.

Out-of-the-box eCommerce setups weren’t able to handle:

  • tiered pricing for different customer groups
  • conditional access to products and resources
  • complex shipping and ordering rules
  • personalised content for trade customers
  • custom reward logic for wholesale customers

Managing this manually would have been time-consuming and difficult to scale.

What I built

I developed a customised WooCommerce implementation designed to handle these requirements in a structured way.

This included:

  • Tiered pricing logic for retail and trade customers
  • Conditional access to products, resources and downloads
  • Custom shipping rules based on order types and conditions
  • A custom-built reward system for wholesale customers
  • Structured product data and relationships
  • Integration with external data sources for managing product information

The solution was designed to be scalable, maintainable and aligned with how the business operates, whilst also supporting different customer experiences within a single platform.

The Outcome

  • The business could manage both retail and trade customers within one system
  • Pricing, rewards and access rules were applied automatically
  • Manual work was reduced, particularly around order handling and customer management
  • The platform could support future growth without needing to be rebuilt
  • Improved efficiency across ordering and customer management processes

My Role

I was responsible for the technical architecture and development of the platform, working alongside the agency’s design and project team.

The same principles apply across platforms such as Shopify, where similar requirements often arise.
